Young Lawyers Are You Prepared To Win
Developing the Next Generation of Rainmakers Young Lawyers: Are You Prepared to Win? What does it take for a young lawyer to begin a successful career in 2016? For many years I gave presentations to young lawyers at firms and bar meetings. If you want some of my ideas, here is my Prepare to Win Handout I provided to those lawyers. In the handout you will find a blank version of this triangle to complete. As you will see you begin with your purpose: Why do you want to practice law. Next you focus on your vision: What you want to become as a lawyer. Next, you focus on your core values: What values you want to live by. Next, borrowing from Stephen Covey: What professional and personal roles you have in your life. Next: What goals you want to achieve in your career. Now you are ready to create your 2016 plan. Here is a 2016 Business Plan template. When you complete the plan, break it down into 90 days: What you want to do in the next 90 days. Break that down into the next week: What, When, How Long and put it in your calendar. I recently went back and re-read my book Prepare to Win. I think you will find the ideas there valuable as well. You can get a hard copy from us for $15.95, or one for your Kindle for only $2.99. I practiced law for 37 years developing a national construction law practice representing some of the top highway and transportation construction contractors in the US.
